I don't think the paywall is the biggest issue here - the idea behind it is solid. Insted of paying a lot of publications to read one-two articles, you pay once and get access to several great authors and publications. But I agree that for us, writers, not getting anything from readers who are not subscribers can be a problem. We might get a million hits, if none of them are paying subscribers, we get nothing. That's terribly unfair.
