Coronavirus: will capitalism be able to survive and reinvent itself?
In order to survive, we will need to thoroughly rethink the economic model we have today. It’s urgent, actually, it was a task for yesterday. We are already late.
Bearing in mind the scenario that biologist Atila Lamarino proposed, of years of temporary lockdowns with a few months of a bit more freedom, the economic model we have today is not sustainable.
We see that jobs considered “lesser” are absolutely essential, much more than those jobs that have historically been dreamed by the elites — and we see it much more clearly than before. It’s brutal.
Home Office is the new thing, but only a certain class can or will benefit.
Production will have to be more local, it is not possible to wait for the kindness of China (or the US which has acted as a pirate and stolen medical materials from other countries). Brazil, the EU, the US cannot just sit and wait and rely on China for every basic and high tech product to be produced and shipped.
We’ll have to live with shutdowns in the economy. We eeither change the system, or it’ll be ugly. No company can survive intermittent shutdowns and the complete uncertainty of a market that will be closed for months every year. How will companies survive? How will people keep their jobs in such a…
