With almost 5 million views, “Greta Thunberg sings Swedish Death Metal” is a global hit — even Greta herself posted the video on her Facebook page.

I’ve interviewed thrash-metal drummer John “Mollusk” Meredith to know a bit more about the video, how he came up with the idea and to also talk about his own metal band, Suaka.

How did you came up with the idea for the video?

I saw her speech and thought it sounded like a death metal song.

What are your thoughts about Greta and his agenda?

I agree that we all need to do our part to conserve and preserve the earth and our environment. I like to think that the earth is a super-organism — made up of all its parts. We are all cells in a greater being. Why shouldn’t we move in accordance with the universe?

You’re in a NYC-based Indonesian thrash band, can you tell a bit more about that (and about yourself)?
